The University of California’s academic health centers have again been honored for their commitment to excellence in quality of inpatient and outpatient care. Vizient, Inc., a health care performance improvement company, annually benchmarks the performance of hospitals and health systems in its national quality and accountability study.
UC academic health centers are national leaders in quality patient care
Three UC academic health centers were among the 14 top performers recognized by Vizient with the Bernard A. Birnbaum, MD, Quality Leadership Award in the cohort group of 115 comprehensive academic medical centers studied. The study measures performance and identifies leaders in six areas: safety, mortality, effectiveness, efficiency, patient-centeredness and equity.
All three UC locations have also previously earned the award:
"UC Health’s academic health centers are dedicated to providing high-quality patient care, and we thank our patients for the trust they put in us," said Interim Chief Clinical Officer and Chief Quality Officer for UC Health Robert Cherry, M.D. "We’re pleased to receive these recognitions, and we will continue to work to improve services and outcomes for our patients even further.”
Providing high-quality outpatient care
UCLA Health and UCI Health were awarded the Vizient Ambulatory Quality and Accountability Award that measures the quality of outpatient care in five domains: access to care, continuum of care, quality, efficiency and equity. The two UC academic health centers were among five recognized nationally by Vizient.
About the Vizient Awards
Vizient’s award rankings factor in measures from the Vizient Clinical Data Base and include performance data from the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems Survey and the CDC’s National Healthcare Safety Network.
