New breast cancer DVD

uch_ucla_slamonganzA newly released DVD designed to provide tools and strategies for women dealing with a breast cancer diagnosis and its aftermath features physicians from UCLA and other experts on health and wellness as well as celebrity interviews.

The DVD, “Breast Cancer: The Path of Wellness and Healing” includes interviews with four experts from UCLA’s Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center on such topics as detection and diagnosis, building the best possible medical team and leading-edge advances in complementary medicine and breast cancer research. The DVD also features interviews with celebrity breast cancer survivors, including Christina Applegate, Sheryl Crow, Melissa Etheridge, Olivia Newton-John and Jaclyn Smith.

Among the cancer center experts interviewed is Dr. Helena Chang, a surgeon and director of the Revlon/UCLA Breast Center. She discusses risk, detection and diagnosis of breast cancer. Dr. Patricia Ganz, director of cancer prevention and control research, shares information on building the appropriate medical team to help guide treatment. Dr. Michael Irwin, a professor of psychiatry and biobehavioral sciences, touches on complementary techniques to deal with treatment-related issues while Dr. Dennis Slamon, director of clinical/translational research, talks about what leading-edge research is being conducted to find more effective and less toxic treatments for breast cancer.
